Firm for the Culture | An Introvert’s Guide to Making Lucrative Connections
Introverted, Insightful, Intellectual: I am What a Trademark Attorney Looks Like.
“But I am so scared of networking…”
This is what a client noted after we offered to make an introduction to a podcast host who could bring his social impact mission to the next level.
A self-described introvert, he relished the more quieter connections for deeper insights rather than “surface level” conversations simply for the sake of getting ahead.
Look, we get it.
In a world that often celebrates the loudest voices, it can seem like a daunting task for the quieter, more introspective among us to break into the realm of networking.
However, introverted tendencies are not an obstacle to networking but can actually be a unique strength.
If you find that you're more inclined to deep, thoughtful conversation over small talk or prefer a quiet corner to a crowded room, this message is written with you in mind.
Below, we’re going to discuss how to harness the power of genuine networking, particularly as an introverted entrepreneur.

As a self-described ambivert (pretty much an introvert and extrovert remixed), I may be “on” and colorful at times, and “off” and reserved at others.
And that’s okay.
I’ve learned to embrace this seeming complexity of my character, and leverage it to by benefit when needed.
Like many of our clients, introverts often bring a depth of thought, focus, and empathy to conversations that are invaluable in networking scenarios.
By understanding that your ability to listen, empathize, and engage in meaningful conversations can create lasting impressions, you can use these qualities to your advantage.
In fact, these authentic exchanges can often be more fruitful than the quick-fire interactions that are commonplace in large networking events.
Networking doesn't always have to mean attending large, high-energy events.
It can be done through smaller, more intimate gatherings, through one-on-one meetings, or even online.
Social media platforms like LinkedIn or virtual networking events can provide an alternative space for introverts to network effectively while respecting their comfort zones.
Indeed, some of my most prized connections and relationships started with a 1-1 discussion about our shared mission, vision, and values.
These conversations make for deep connections that usually stand the test of time.
Ever heard the phrase, “the finances are in the follow up?”
It’s true.
In this high intensity world where information is thrown at us from every angle we can imagine, it’s often hard to respond back to messages from others who email us only once.
Repetitive touch points are necessary.
Introverts often excel in one-on-one interactions, and these can be capitalized on in follow-up communications.
A personalized email or message that refers back to your conversation will demonstrate your attention to detail and genuine interest.
And if the recipient does not get back to you, don’t take it personally, simply follow up with a quick “hello” or “this article made me think about you.”
It can take time to get into someone’s “orbit,” but with consistent follow up, you’ll stand out in a sea of sameness.

Conclusion
Introverts, you were born to stand out.
It’s true, networking as an introvert may require stepping out of your comfort zone, but by leveraging your unique strengths and embracing strategies that align with your personality, you can create meaningful connections and opportunities.
Because at the end of the day, networking is about fostering relationships and connections. In this space, your introverted qualities can shine, proving that the power of networking is not just for the extroverted among us.
Remember, your unique contributions to the culture are what’s needed to make a positive impact on the world.
