This morning, I read an amazing Substack article by Adam Grant, Organizational Psychologist and Wharton Business School Professor, about how giving can lead to rapid growth, success, and increased satisfaction.
This inspired me to think about the interconnectedness between Firm for the Culture’s Growth in Relation to Our Giving:
Entrepreneurship and giving may seem like two distinct concepts at first glance, but they are actually deeply interconnected.
When combined, they can create a powerful force for good in the world, leading to innovative solutions and sustainable change.
First, giving leads to more creative entrepreneurial ideas.
Entrepreneurship is often characterized by creativity, innovation, risk-taking, and a relentless drive to succeed. But even the best and brightest of us hit a roadblock every now and then.
Giving back allows us space to be creative; it’s in our philanthropic offerings that we see more innovative ways to serve our communities, increase our brand awareness, and promote meaningful social impact.
Second, giving allows us to show off our problem solving skills.
Flexing ain’t only for the ‘gram…
Indeed, some of our most dynamic clients came to us after we gave a free or low cost presentation around trademarks and brand protection.
Well, during such presentations, our problem solving skills came into play. We were able to show our stuff by handling trademark questions on the spot.
In the end, flexing our skills in real time turned out to be an efficient way to garner the “know, like, trust” factor often discussed in marketing and sale discourse.

Third, giving reminds you of your purpose.
A mentor once told me, “the best way to find your purpose is through giving graciously.”
When we decided to incorporate free and low cost trademark services into our business model, we had no idea just how much satisfaction (and increased brand awareness) it would give us in the long run.
In seeing the “aha” in our audience’s faces, to helping underrepresented communities understand that they too had unique and dynamic creations that deserved to be protected, we were reminded of our “why,” and, in turn, given additional momentum to simply “keep going.”
What’s the Founder lesson in this?
Don’t be afraid to give out loud.
Entrepreneurship and giving are two powerful forces that, when combined, can create lasting and transformative change.
By leveraging your unique resources, skills, and mindset, you can make a positive impact on your communities and the world at large.
