Firm for the Culture | I'm Not Ending this Year "Strong."
I'm ending this year in the middle. | I am what an Intellectual Property Attorney looks like.
I’ve missed you.
Hope you had an amazing start to the holiday season.
But now, it’s go time.
Hustle hard!
Grind till you drop!
No sleep until you’re dead!
Right?
Let’s face it.
If you’re a part of our Founders’ community you’re likely the strong, ambitious, and courageous entrepreneurial friend who has crushed a yearly resolution or two.
And at the same time, you’re probably the strong, ambitious, and courageous entrepreneurial friend who still remembers the yearly resolutions you didn’t quite yet accomplish.
In any event, you’re likely committed to ending the year strong.
And it’s absolutely admirable.
But, if I may recommend an alternative, how about ending this year in the middle?
In this Founders’ letter, we’re going to talk about embracing this transitionary period of the holidays by planting seeds for your highest and most authentic version in the coming year.

When we launched Firm for the Culture, I was asked about the advice I would give to first generation professionals who were considering a career in law.
Of the many nuggets of wisdom shared, one continues to resonate with me the most:
But keep going. Keep asking questions.
Keep building community around you.
Because there’s purpose attached to your journey.”
In this Founders’ letter, I’d say the “middle” is synonymous with the “in between.”
Indeed, you’re not quite where you want to be, but you’re far from where you used to be, and you’re working towards becoming more of what you’re called to be.
The middle is the cost of entry to success, it’s the journey to the humble “Linkedin brag,” and its the road to the huge accolades.
The middle is where your endurance is tested, your perseverance is strengthened, and your determination has a chance to shine.
So for this year, I’m ending in the middle, because God’s not done with me yet.
Let’s break down three dynamic end of the year activities you can embrace to “end in the middle strong.”
According to the Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, only 9% of Americans that make resolutions complete them.
In fact, research goes on to show that 23% of people quit their resolutions by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January.
When exploring the reasons behind this, researchers suggest that many people who make resolutions do so out of tradition and without paying attention to the very real and normal obstacles that will inevitably arise.
In other words, people don’t consider the middle.
In order to avoid this, start listing out some of your big goals for next year.
If you’d like to lose weight, start looking for fitness programs and gyms now.
If you’d like to launch a business next year, start researching business support programs now (we provide a list and rundown to our clients, by the way, so sign up with us if you’re ready to be supported).
If you’d like to read 10 or more books next year, start compiling your list now.
Start planting the seeds now so that you hit the ground running in January.
Ever heard the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child?”
Well, it also takes a village to implement a huge goal.
As we surpass 250 clients at Firm for the Culture, we’ll be the first to admit that none of this would have been possible without the referrals, social media likes, email introductions, and prayers of friends, family, and business colleagues.
Firm for the Culture has grown beyond our wildest expectations, and for this we are grateful.
But we’re just getting started.
To get to the next level of growth, we know that a strong and dedicated team of mentors, advisors, bookkeepers, board members, and prayer warriors will be crucial.
In the same way, a community will also be needed for the manifestation of your vision as well.
As we wind down for the year, pick up the phone and invite trusted advisors, mentors, and friends to lunch or coffee.
Take a moment to not only share your goals, but the support you’ll need to accomplish them.
This way, you’ll start the year strong with a team of accountability partners by your side.
Remember, it’s still a holiday season, so the wind down may very much be necessary.
Especially this year, as it was not for the faint of heart.
In fact, for many, this year was so tough that the thought of making resolutions for the New Year is daunting to say the least.
Perhaps you’re a little nervous about crafting resolutions because the ones you made this year didn’t work out as planned.
Perhaps you’re so exhausted that you’re scared to hope for a better year.
And that’s okay.
Give yourself grace to reflect on your wins this year.
Give yourself kudos for the strength you’ve shown this year.
And most importantly, give yourself time to decompress and simply be proud of yourself for making it through this year.
Practicing your grace now is an effective way to ease into the best version of yourself as the new year comes.
Conclusion: I’m Embracing the Middle Now
The middle is never really comfortable.
But it’s the necessary part of the journey that makes us whole.
As we finish this year, I challenge you to embrace the middle of your journey.
And keep going.
Because God is working.
We at Firm for the Culture are here to guide, support, and walk alongside you every step of the way.
