‘Tis the Season to Unsubscribe
At least once a year, I go through my email and tech subscriptions to determine if they're still worth hanging on to.
As I review my subscriptions, assessing just how long I’ve held on to that membership I barely used, the workshops and courses cluttering my dropbox, and the email lists messages I rarely read, I can't help but draw parallels to the narratives we carry with us—those insidious inner dialogues that also need a serious unsubscribe.
Perhaps you’re holding on to one too many narratives about your worthiness, what you deserve, and what you’re still willing to accept despite your growth, insight, and expanding sense of self.
So let’s unsubscribe from these narratives together.
In this Founders’ letter, we’re going to talk about three narratives to unsubscribe from as we grow into our highest and most authentic selves.

Please Unsubscribe Me: Shedding Old Stories for New Beginnings
For many of us, this year was one has been a testament to our collective resillience.
Amidst the swirl of uncertainty, we’ve each had to dig deep, finding strength we might not have known we possessed.
With that, it’s also been a year where the stories we told ourselves had the potential to stifle us.
For instance, several narratives regarding Firm for the Culture’s growth and impact quietly, yet persistently, tried to shape my entrepreneurial journey.
And I’m sure for many of you, a bevy of similar narratives that could have stymied your progress as well.
But as we stand on the cusp of a new chapter, it’s time to sift through these narratives and decide which stories deserve a renewal and which ones we need to let go.
If you’ve been in this community for some time, you know this Founder’s Letter isn't just about tidying up our digital spaces; it's an encouragment to engage in a profound act of self-care, where we consciously choose to unsubscribe from limiting beliefs and worn-out tales that no longer serve our purpose or potential.
As game changers and visionaries, it's common to brace ourselves for the proverbial 'other shoe to drop.'
If you’re anything like me, we’ve been conditioned to expect setbacks as soon as we taste success, a mindset that can shackle even the most ambitious among us.
This narrative often stems from past struggles, making it feel all too real and daunting.
But our past does not dictate our future.
And fear does not have to be our story.
Let’s embrace our past as a rich tapestry of lessons that prepare us for new heights.
But let’s also be sure to collectively unsubscribe from the fear of impending doom and rewrite our story.
In this new story, let’s focus on the success that breeds more success.
Because in the end, challenges are merely stepping stones to greater achievements.
This year has been one in which I found myself in obscurity more times than not.
Full webinars to an audience of none.
Social media posts that were met with silence.
Potential client sales calls that were never returned.
These actions, while significant to us, can started to make us feel inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
And as diverse founders and social entrepreneurs, the magnitude of the changes we aspire to make can sometimes dwarf our sense of impact.
But remember, every monumental movement started with a single act, a single voice.
Your efforts are far from futile; they are foundational.
Each step you take lays the groundwork for lasting change.
Let's unsubscribe from the narrative of insignificance and embrace the power of incremental, consistent efforts.
Our collective small steps are, indeed, giant leaps for our communities.
This narrative is perhaps the most insidious.
It whispers in moments of doubt, challenges, and even during times of success, casting a shadow on our achievements.
The thought that we, as individuals, are not enough to effect change, build successful ventures, or leave a lasting impact, can paralyze us.
But realize that you’re still standing.
Here you are. You go-getter, you.
You are not just enough; you are precisely what your vision, your venture, and your community need.
Let's unsubscribe from self-doubt and reaffirm our worth and capabilities.
Together, we're a formidable force, more than enough to create the change we envision.
Conclusion: Stepping Forward with Renewed Narratives
It's time to shed the weight of outdated narratives.
The journey thus far may have been riddled with challenges, but it has also been a testament to our tenacity and sense of purpose.
Uncertainties notwithstanding, let's replace fear with faith, doubt with determination, and limitation with limitless possibilities.
I challenge you, our vibrant community of social entrepreneurs and diverse founders, to step into the new year not just with new goals, but with a renewed sense of self. A self that knows its worth, understands its power, and is ready to make an impact.
Remember, you're not just on this journey for yourself; you're paving the way for others who will follow in your footsteps. So, keep moving forward. Keep rewriting your story.
We at Firm for the Culture are here to guide, support, and walk alongside you every step of the way.
