Firm for the Culture | Staying in the Ring When Insecurity Strikes
Pitch Yourself. Say it With Your Chest. And Stay. Even When You Want To Run.
Ever Second-guessed a Bold Pitch Mere Moments After Sending It?
That was me this past weekend, moments after DM’ing a well known thought leader in the social impact industry to share how Firm for the Culture does the unique work of bridging IP Protection & Social Impact.
When you’re playing big, you’ll inevitably have a time when you step outside your comfort zone to face challenges that make your heart race and your mind go numb.
For some, it could be taking on a new role or pursuing a dream.
For others, it could be standing your ground to demand compensation for the value you provide to your company.
For me, it was pitching a big idea to a thought leader in the social impact industry.
In these moments, it’s so easy to listen to insecurities reverberate the same sad story of us not being ready, not being “good enough,” or not being worthy.
Stop.
We’re going to stay in the ring this time.
And we’re going to unpack how to best stay the course, especially when insecurity makes us want to run screaming in the other direction.

I’m a words of affirmation girl, so adding a “❤️” or commenting below will make my heart sing.
When we started Firm for the Culture, we did so with the bold idea that we could help social enterprises protect their brand, monetize their brand, and scale their social impact.
All sprinkled with bold transparent fees at a fraction of the cost of what big law charges…
And in less than four years, we’ve helped over 200 clients protect their trademarks, obtained licensing deals in the tens of thousands of dollars, was recognized by the Tory Burch Fellows Program as a dynamic social impact based organization, and helped thousands of diverse social impact founders understand just how their unique contributions to the culture could be protected through trademarks and licensing:
In other words…we did that ish….
And I’m sure if you think about it, you’re doing the da*m thing as well….
In moments of insecurity, it's easy to forget your past accomplishments and the value you bring to the table.
To keep yourself grounded, take time to reflect on your successes and milestones.
Reminding yourself of your wins can help boost your confidence and empower you to stay in the ring when the going gets tough.
You just pressed the “send” button, telling the message recipient why you’re the best candidate for the opportunity.
Now, you wait.
Heart pounding?
Palms sweating?
Mind racing?
Friend, me too.
And in such moments, it may feel like your world is crumbling down because you decided to stand out when you wanted to simply fit in…
However, it's essential to recognize that discomfort is a natural part of growth and progress.
Embrace the discomfort and remind yourself that it's a sign you're pushing boundaries and expanding your horizons.
When you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and remind yourself that it's okay to be uncomfortable.
This temporary discomfort is a stepping stone on your path to success.
My way of combating insecurity is by being well-prepared.
When I’m about to step into the proverbial ring, whether it's for a discussion with a thought leader or tackling a new project, I take the time to research, practice, and plan.
Like me, knowing you've done your homework can help you feel more confident in your abilities and ideas.
The more prepared you are, the easier it will be to face your fears and stay in the ring.
You’re probably wondering what came of my DM to the thought leader?
They responded, said they were happy to connect, and even asked me to offer times where we could have a discussion.
Excited to see what comes of this.
At Firm for the Culture, we’re social entrepreneurs helping social entrepreneurs.
And while, like many of you, our Firm mission is clear, I have to admit, I’m not always confident in pitching myself to others.
But as I say this to myself, I share the same with you:
Reminding myself of past wins.
Embracing the discomfort.
And prepare thoroughly.
This way, you can face fears head-on and emerge stronger than before.
Embrace the Fear, Ignite the Change.
I won't sugarcoat it - standing our ground can be terrifying.
But there's magic in facing our insecurities.
In daring to stay in the ring.
And in challenging our self-doubts.
It's through these battles we evolve.
So, fellow trailblazers, seize the fear.
Welcome the uncertainty.
For greatness lies just beyond.
