I Vented on Bumble
Trust, Goals, and Vision: What to Look for in Your Legal Partner | I Am What an Intellectual Property Attorney Looks Like.
So…this is a really interesting story.
A few years ago, while working with a client, he told me that he vented on Bumble (not the actual social media platform for attorney-client purposes).
He shared that, after playing phone tag with a particular interest of his, he finally connected and went on a date.
And then this person ghosted him…
As he was sharing with me, I could not help but feel, well, privileged.
Not because of the story he was sharing, per se…
But because I could be trusted not only with this client’s intellectual property portfolio but also with something personal to them.
In this moment, I wasn’t only his lawyer, I was his trusted confidant.
Five years and hundreds of clients later, I realize instances like this (because they are pretty common with us) are the inevitable result of making sure Firm for the Culture is a safe space for diverse clients.
So this prompts the question: are your service providers making a safe space for you?
Let’s find out together…
In this Founders’ Letter, we’re going to talk about three things you should look for when choosing an attorney or service provider to support you in your business journey.

And thank you, Howard, for trusting us with your brand.
Stories like Howard’s remind us that finding the right attorney is about more than navigating the legal landscape; it’s about cultivating a relationship that helps you reach heights beyond what you could’ve imagined.
Let’s dive into what makes a lawyer or service provider a great partner.
1. They Understand Your Vision, Mission, and Values
One of the first things we ask every client before they start working with Firm for the Culture is about their vision, mission, and values.
Because we work with clients who don’t just want to protect their intellecual property—they want to play big.
Our clients have a vision that transcends the everyday hustle; they aim to create dynamic impact in their industries, communities, or organizations.
Whether it’s redefining industry standards, uplifting underserved communities, or pioneering new innovations, our clients’ missions drive them to think beyond the ordinary.
With this, understanding a client’s vision, mission, and values isn’t just a formality; it’s the bedrock upon which we build our entire strategy.
It allows us to craft legal solutions that resonate with their core identity, ensuring that every action we take aligns with their long-term goals.
Thus, if your service provider is not asking you about your overall vision, mission, and values, it may be time to find another service provider.
Beyond understanding your vision, a great lawyer or service provider should be deeply invested in your goals.
At Firm for the Culture, we not only focus on the client’s legal goals, but also the clients general business goals.
Want to start a podcast? We can introduce you to a client.
Want to join an accelerator program? We can connect you with others who have successfully done it.
Want to do a TedX talk? We have someone in our orbit who can help you.
Your goals are the milestones that mark your progress, and every step taken should bring you closer to them.
3. You Like Your Lawyer and They “Get” You
I have more inside jokes with clients than I care to admit…
Expertise is a given when it comes to choosing a lawyer or service provider, but empathy is what truly sets a great partner apart.
In the legal field, where the stakes are often high, having a partner who not only understands the law but also understands you is invaluable.
Empathy means your lawyer sees the bigger picture—how a legal decision today impacts your business tomorrow.
It means they’re not just providing legal advice; they’re helping you build a legacy.
