’Tis the Season to Let Go
Letting Go So You Can Gain More | I Am What an Intellectual Property Attorney Looks Like.
Happy Holidays!
If you’re anything like me, the holidays are the perfect time to clean up, clear out, and recalibrate before the New Year rolls around.
And what better way to do it than to clean through all the snail mail you probably should’ve checked throughout the year but didn’t (don’t come for me, IRS, I have e-notices set up)?!?
So, as I cleaned up my house—sorting through piles of snail mail —I found myself reflecting on a simple yet powerful message:
There’s something about the end of the year that brings clarity.
Maybe it’s the quiet moments after the holiday rush or the anticipation of a fresh start.
Whatever it is, I’ve come to realize that letting go is just as important as setting new goals.
So, as the year wraps up, I want to take this Founders’ Letter to share four key limitations to leave behind as we enter 2025.

1. Let go of what success is “supposed” to look like.
This year, I celebrated my fifth full year as an entrepreneur.
And if I’m honest, there are so many things I haven’t accomplished by this point—things I once thought were markers of “real” success.
But there are also countless things I have accomplished, and those deserve to be celebrated.
In the years since leaving Corporate America, I paid off my student loans, purchased a house, got a doggy, and built Firm for the Culture to an IP law firm that serves over 300 clients:
Learn to embrace that success often looks different than what you may have anticipated.
Instead, lean into the fullness of what life actually is—not what I thought it was “supposed” to be.
You’ll be surprised at how much you’ve actually accomplished to date.
You already know which ones these are. You feel it in your gut.
So here’s the truth: you don’t have to carry them into 2025. Letting go of what doesn’t serve you creates space for opportunities, people, and moments that do.
As we move through life and business, not everything (or everyone) is meant to come with us on the journey forever.
Whether it’s a difficult client, a draining relationship, or an experience you’ve outgrown, holding onto these can weigh you down far more than you realize.
As you prepare for 2025, remind yourself: letting go is not selfish.
It’s self-preservation. It’s stepping into a life and business that aligns with who you are and who you’re becoming.
Here’s the thing about life: the more you know, the more you realize how much you don’t know.
And that’s okay.
The beauty of learning is that it’s an endless process.
So let go of the unrealistic expectation that you’re supposed to have all the answers right now. Trust the journey.
Instead of striving for perfection or certainty, focus on being present and curious. Ask questions, seek guidance, and give yourself the grace to learn as you go.
In a world that glorifies hustle culture, stepping back can feel counterintuitive.
But here’s the truth: rest is productive.
• Your body and mind need recovery. Just as muscles need rest to grow stronger after a workout, your mind needs time to recharge. Burnout is not a badge of honor—it’s a warning sign.
• Rest allows for reflection. When you step away from the grind, you gain perspective. It’s often in moments of stillness that the best ideas emerge and clarity surfaces.
• Productivity is not always about doing more. It’s about doing what matters most. Taking time to rest ensures that when you work, you’re working with intention and focus.
So today, give yourself permission to pause.
Whether it’s taking a walk, enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of tea, or simply stepping away from your to-do list, know that rest is not indulgent—it’s necessary.
So that’s all, fam.
By letting go, I’m reminding myself—and you—that this isn’t about giving up.
It’s about making space:
• Space for clarity.
• Space for joy.
• Space for the incredible abundance that God has in store for us.
So, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a lighter, more abundant, and clearer rest of your year.
What’s are you giving up to gain more for next year?
I’d love to hear from you—drop a comment or reply to share how you’re setting up for a thriving 2025.

Great post, Ruky. Thanks for the timely reminder about being present.
I applaud you for what you've built and continue to build.
Maybe it's a bit like the Sydney Habour Bridge...the thing was built in the 1930's but it's constantly being repainted to keep the steel from decaying.
Like any bridge, I guess.
There's a particular relationship I've been fantasizing about letting go. Your post came as another prompt. Not sure I can do it yet but I know it's the right thing to do.
Wishing you a successful, fulfilling 2025.
